Comment by vc. hefti on May 13, 2011 at 10:49am Thanks David and Bayazit.
I'll have to check out some of those plug-ins, and while I'm at it I have to get V-Ray.
I'd love to see some samples of 3rd party plug-ins.
Comment by Bayazit Oguz Ayoglu on May 13, 2011 at 12:30am Hi Hefti,
you can find some examples at my DA Gallery 3D Jobs folder. Most of the recent works are produced with 3D vegetation, a combination of pre-made models, self-models used via proxies and rendered with MentalRay or Vray. Hopefully, they can give some idea.
Hefti: I can render some out if you'd like using a few different 3rd party plug-ins. The vegetation that ships with 3DS Max is pathetic and literally hasn't been updated in 10 years.
I'd recommend checking out Onyx, Bionatics, XFrog, Speed Tree, and Vue xStream. I use OnyxTree regularly and am just starting to check out the xStream plug-in. As far as I know, they all work well with MentalRay or VRay.
Comment by vc. hefti on May 12, 2011 at 5:50pm Question: anyone have some pictures of examples of vegetation done in 3Ds?
