Comment by Ava Baptiste on January 12, 2012 at 12:27am I am a graduate student in the Department of Landscape Architecture at the School of Architecture at Florida A & M University. My thesis entails an investigation of the growth and character of coastal communities. As part of my research I am conducting a brief survey of Landscape Architects, Architects, Developers and other professionals who would be involved in community growth and development.
This survey takes the form of a series of statements for which the response is the degree of agreement from a scale of 1 thru 5 and a series of pictures for which the rate of preference is from 1 thru 5 and a few demographic questions as well. It is often found that the personal opinions of the designer and that of the clients and not necessarily the same. Therefore, in filling this survey I ask that you base your responses on what you believe is the response that a potential client would give and not your own opinion. It only takes 10 mins to fill out and no personal information is required.
The PDF of the survey is attached or you may folow the link below to find if on the WEB.

Once this if filled please return a PDF copy to avabaptiste@comcast.net.
Thanks for you help.

Comment by Bård Magnus Fauske on September 22, 2011 at 7:41am to JMW I'm educated landscape architecht with my master coarses in spatial planning and implementation of parks and urban spaces as my master degree - from UMB.no (university of life sciences in norway). I've been working mostly with urban public planning, but now I'm working in a consultant company (Norconsult).
Norwegian educations has recently been criticised for not offering and clean planner education; most ar master degrees in architecture, landskape architecture, geography with master coarses in planning. Thus many here have a combined approach. Most LAs do though work in drawing detailed projects, not planning. I guesss 10-30% of LA in Norway work with spatial planning issues.
Comment by A.Corry on September 22, 2011 at 6:27am JMW,
Many LA's practice planning as a portion of their work. However, I hear much less of any public sector planners who also practice Landscape Architecture. I don't have enough experience to consider my opinion credible as to why that seems to be the case, but I believe the understanding of "high design" as opposed to "conforming with the ordinances" is a large difference. However, that isn't to suggest that every LA understands "high design" either. Take it for what you will.
