Major influences include ~ 20 years working as a geologist - the land teaches us more than any book or individual. One of my other major influences is Jerry Diethelm, who encouraged us all to "map" the designers and other people who have influenced us as designers (and otherwise). Though my map is still in progress, here are a few people who have affected me most: Stephen Jay Gould, Ed Wilson, Jerry Deithelm, Elizabeth Meyer, Rob Thayer, Walter Hood, Ian McHarg.
Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you. Hope things are still well with you. Encourage your students to attend this year's LABash in Las Vegas. We have an excellent line up of speakers. They can check out the LABash 2010 website at: www.labash2010.com. You should consider attending as well, the price is all the same for attendees whether they be professionals, alumni, or students. Hope to hear from you soon!
