"Thank you both for the input. I figured that it would not be wise to add water to the original stone facade. I will likely highlight the wall with an attractive flowering tree in front of it and up-lighting to create a unique shadow on the stone."

Jason T. Radice replied to Michael Barcelos's discussion 'Sheer Descent Waterfall Wall Design'
"Judging by the efflorescence on part of the wall, it looks like you already have water issues behind the stone. I'd strongly suggest not putting a water feature on the wall, as it has not been designed for it. You will need lots of…"

Sheer Descent Waterfall Wall Design

I am currently working on a client's patio that lies adjacent to the back of their house.  The small ranch house was inspired by the designs of Frank Lloyd Wright and has a beautiful rock facade near the patio.  The client would like to see a water feature that incorporates the existing rock wall.  I would like to propose a cascading sheer descent water feature that trickles down the face of the existing rock facade.  I have little experience with waterfall design and do not know if it would be…See More

Design-Build Student Projects

Does anyone know of any student based Design-Build projects requested for the upcoming year?  As a senior at Clemson University,  I am interested in bringing a real world project to the studio that can be completed by students.  I am aware of Education Africa, and have seen some really powerful student designed projects be implemented.  The opportunity to design and construct a small project in a single academic year would be great for my fellow peers and I. See More

Internship Offers or Advice

I am sure there are plenty of students or recent grads that are in need of internships with a professional Landscape Architecture firm.  I myself have been searching for months online trying to land an internship for this upcoming summer.  I am familiar with the big name internship programs (Design Workshop, EDSA, SWA Group) but I am still looking for more opportunities.  Does anyone know of any additional internship programs that are available for this upcoming summer, or have any advice for…See More

Thanks! The photoshop/ montage work in you own portfolio is really impressive. What was the Egyptian project?

Hi Michael,

You work sounds interesting! Reminds me of the jaguar corridor that is (attempting) to get established through Central America.
My work, though, is not with wildlife and habitats but rather with zoolife and re-created (OK, let's say it: artificial) habitats.

Good luck with the project!

Hey Michael,

Your work looks great. I actually had a chance to get my cut sheets in front of David Rubin of Olin yesterday. He remarked on basic things like the use of white space and some of the details in my design solutions. Generally, I think employers like to see clean, simple layouts. he did not like the "signature" on each page and felt it was a bit arrogant. I just thought it looked cool and reminded the reviewer who's work they were looking at. Otherwise I tend to change the layout and big idea about once a week...lol.

real nice folio. reminded me the first two years of hand-drawings in University of Vila Real (UTAD) in Portugal, graduating in Landscape Architecture.
Your last name Barcelos, has something to do with Portugal? (i'm just curious, because here, we have a city with that same name ...)
