Costa Rica is awesome. Don't know what your into, but I bet you will find it there. My suggestion is to find a cheap way to stay for an extended period of time (2 weeks or more) and do as much traveling around the country side as possible (pay locals to taxi you around, I'd avoid car rentals). I'd land in San Jose, and get out of there ASAP. Find a coastal area or rainforest or both. There are a few tourist traps, I'd avoid those too. Basically trying to say that the locals in the countryside are very nice and helpful to tourists and the experience is one-of-a-kind.

I can give you a list of locations to visit if you need them. I was there for a month and traveled extensively with a group.
