So I've tried blogs before... they didn't last but will try once again.
I guess I will use this to track my last semester as an undergrad at Purdue. (December 21st can't get here soon enough!!)
My first week back at Purdue is down and along with just trying to get used to my new schedule, I seem to be unable to function on campus anymore either. For those of you not familiar with the Purdue program, for your 4th year in the program, you take a year off school to co-op at a…

Michelle Derviss is an award winning landscape designer out of Novato, California. Her "circuitous path" through education lead her on a journey where she, "hybridized her studies from The Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, The California College of Arts and Crafts and The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University into a career that embraces landscape design as a sculptural art form." Her designs are bold, her sense of humor keen. Read the e-interview I had with her…

Finally after two and a half whole months of 40+ hr weeks!!! Ugh..(picking up the sarcasm?)
But really, I'm ready to get back to school Tuesday for my fifth and final year at CSU...hopefully. Took a day off to register for classes today (yes, a little late). It was nice to get out in the sun and jump through all the financial aid hoops CSU requires. But I've reached the home stretch.

Yesterday I briefed a small team on tasks related to my 2 new residential landscape jobs, need to focus on the main entry points for now to get the sense of arrival sorted. I then asked an assistant to refine 4 villa garden design prototypes for sending to the UK office for comment and booked up my flights to Bahrain on Saturday.
I have to be honest, my carbon footprint must be shocking due to business travel by air. I don't have a car and normally cycle to work but the recent…

So - this is my first ever blog. Thought I'd try my hand at it. A colleague shared this link with me today, and I thought it was too cool not to write about.

Really cool playground equipment from a Dutch design group. I want to talk one of my clients into installing a 'wall-holla' in a park. I showed it to my son and now he insists that we need one for our neighborhood park.
It…

Phew...by Thursday evening I had only wrapped up my final responses and revised proposal for the Suzhou Industrial Park project following a rigorous tender board interview in the morning. It was 8:30pm and I still needed to get through 21 emails, and draw up 2 master plans (sketch presentation) for a meeting on Friday. It was a late night and by 2:30am under dimming lights I'd pretty much achieved what I wanted for the drawing.
Friday morning I was driven and motivated to clear my…

Blimey the week passed quick! I was blogging away and suddenly a swift week slipped by. I had another meeting in Shanghai this Monday with another development company who were very interested in our recent residential landscape project for Vanke. Yes you guessed it they needed to see what we could do (ideas etc..) before they can formally invite us to carry out work. I am not new to this...Beijing Blindness was a foolish belief from internal colleagues that the lead was a genuine opportunity, I…

Exhibition/ performance by Sarah Foque
11-17th of August
Forest Cafe, 3 Bristo Place, Edinburgh.
Coffee chat deals with the spatial politics of a transitory space. A café has an ever changing occupancy; its non-physical spatial boundaries are therefore in constant flux. The work aims to pick up on these constant changing spatial arrangements and to visualise the movements through and usage of space through the abstract language of coloured lines. By this…

Last Friday our office received a cold call from a real estate developer in Beijing asking to find out more about what we do and if we were interested in doing the landscape design for an urban streetscape. I pulled together a presentation and flew up to Beijing on Monday morning. Checked out the fantastic new International Airport, jumped on the airport express train and walked to the clients office. Had a healthy chicken and rocket ciabatta sandwich a kiwi power smoothie and then went up to…

What a day!! I had about 2 hours this morning to pull together some company profile information and project description sheets of landscape works related to urban highways and form the outline of a fee proposal. Had to get that sent off to a 'cold call' client from Gu'an near Beijing. (Cleared), Then had a meeting with our CEO who announced I've been promoted to an Associate Director (Nice one). Then had to phone real estate giants Vanke to apologize for being half an hour late to a design team…
