Oye Sr. Lopez,

Thanks for your input. I’m sure there’s some truth to your hypothesis. Unfortunately, we are not dealing with the colorful political graffiti murals like you might see in some places.
I’m from a small town in Georgia – there’s still so much tension between the whites, blacks and hispanics in this town. Most of the writing is racial or gang…[Read more]

When I interviewed for my internship which I’m doing right now, it seemed that they looked for a variety of all that. Shows that you are not just one dimensional. Group work shows that you can work with others which i good, and i used both digital and hand drawn drawings as well as show models and how you can take a project from start to finish. A…[Read more]

Good morning from Montreal, Akram . Hope you are not working too hard in Morrocco, I was working on a project there but it was poorly conceived, badly managed and unrealistic to implement. Thank goodness that it was cancelled. Morrocco needs landscape architects and if my research is correct, could in fact be the birthplace of one of the founders…[Read more]

I think there’s an interesting graffiti discussion looming here..
I may go as far as to hypothesize that the quality and style of the graffiti can be directly correlated to the quality of place.

I can’t answer your original question, but I’m curious about the design and setting. Do you have any pictures you could share?
I’ve been to a lot of remote shelters and they’re almost always carved up. After a while it becomes part of the character. Although not a very constructive comment I think setting has a lot to do with it.

Well out here in California, my professors have been telling me that it’s starting to pick back up. I have to admit that I would definitely not want to work for free just to earn experience in some internship. I think that honest work deserves an honest paycheck regardless of age or work experience. It’s just part of my religion.

You can try this stuff for the pens and markers (and paint) but nothing will stop the etching and carving. Perhaps better lighting and a fake camera shell or two might prevent it. Or camp out there a few nights and surprise the culprits. Other than that, there is nothing you can do, kids today are disrespectful pigs (much worse than my…[Read more]

Damn Russ……. I hope you are wrong about “add a decade to that”. Hell, my hair may be gray or GONE by that time if true.
I do however agree with you about the end of the “rainmaker with an army of CAD monkeys”. That is good. Always hated that particular biz model. There are still guys out there who want to slap something onto a piece of trace…[Read more]

As a commuter cyclist, I agree that you probably do not need to add bike lanes in neighborhoods if that means taking away parking in already narrow roads. Small neighborhoods generally have slow-moving, infrequent traffic so I really feel that the danger level is pretty low. And even though I’m in favor of bikes over cars, I know that taking away…[Read more]

cevrena – this question of who the ‘prime’ is comes up a lot with one of the l.a. firms we work with on a regular basis. and it really depends, in my opinion, on what the prime drivers on the project are (in the client’s mind). case in point: on a project that we’ve done at georgia tech, the l.a. firm was the prime on phase one of the project,…[Read more]

Landscape Plants for California Gardens by Bob Perry. Bob Perry was a professor of mine at Cal Poly Pomona last year. This is the greatest book for California Plants. My opinion would be that bike lanes in lieu of on-street parking as a prescriptive blanket response is probably not the best solution.
Just thinking about it, perhaps there’s I hierarchy that occurs where a main ‘bike artery’ is identified with pedestrian collectors. I’m not familiar with SRTS standards so I’m just venturing some ideas. I think…[Read more]

Hard to tell from this information, Cassie..Is it too far for the kids to walk? I think trying to get kids to walk to school has to be a multi-front war – make sure there are safe crossings, with pedestrian lights, safe sidewalkds, route continuity, and bike paths – can’t have too many bike paths, as far as I am concerned. It can be hard to…[Read more]
