Department Head

Website Penn State University

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State’s Department of Landscape Architecture seeks an innovative, thoughtful colleague interested in enhancing our department’s curricular offerings in social issues in Landscape Architecture — which can range from environmental justice to design for connection/inclusion to power structures in urban design. We further seek a faculty member who will contribute to a climate that embraces excellence and diversity: evidence of a commitment to working collegially with individuals from diverse backgrounds is required. We strongly encourage applications from underrepresented groups.

The position provides an opportunity for emerging scholars to delve into a research inquiry through studio or seminar courses, develop research methods and tools in an engaged and innovative community of scholars, and deepen critical design pedagogy in both the graduate (MLA) and undergraduate (BLA) programs.

The successful candidate will join our community as an Assistant Teaching Professor, non-tenure line, starting in August 2023 for two-year appointment, through May 2025.  The successful candidate will team teach our community design studio and contribute to additional studios, seminars, and/or skills courses. The position additionally will entail service responsibilities within the department as well as the expectation of research or creative activity.

The College of Arts & Architecture is working to establish a culture of anti-racism and anti-oppression that embraces individual identities, fosters a culture of inclusion, and promotes equity through curricula, values, standards, ideals, policies and practices. The ideal candidate will provide evidence of their experience with, and interest in, contributing to these goals.
