Is Ecological Restoration Just Gardening?

If the acts of ecological restoration require endless planting and weeding, is it really gardening? And are we looking at a future in which nature itself is a cultivated entity? I’d be fascinated to know your reaction to a thought-provoking article by Peter Del Tredici.
