Hi

Any LA’s using Adobe Illustrator? and what for?

Do you use it as a standalone or with the rest of a cs suite?

Whats its pro’s and cons?

Thinking about using it for concept development before CADDing.

I find it useful mainly for diagramming and also layout and labeling.

Where it lacks, other cs software makes up for, which is probably why photoshop and indesign are what they are. Its a good program.

I too have used it for land planning studies that are mostly diagrammatic, symbolic and use a lot of annotations.

its applicable because it is vector based, using cad will give you scale and offsets though…

Totally agree with Nick – I really like Illustrator for diagramming because of the ease of drawing and manipulating lines. It can also be a decent program for doing plan graphics, although the files tend to get really large. The added benefit of using Illustrator is that that you can open .pdfs from AutoCAD in Illustrator and work directly with the lines from AutoCAD (vs. Photoshop which rasterizes the image first). You can also export to other programs (as mentioned in the post below), including to a DWG. The conversion is not perfect, but gives you a good start.

thanks i’ll download the trial.
I actually use vectorworks but it imports dwg’s and dxf’s ad pdf’s.
I also use a tablet so i thought it might be a natural addition to that.
