Landscape Project Manager
Hours: Full Time
Location: Boston, MA, mix of in-person and virtual/remote
Compensation: $70,800
Overview
Reporting to the Engagement & Construction Director, the Landscape
Project Manager will oversee the construction of new food forests in
addition to supporting their design thus transforming underutilized land into thriving green
spaces that benefit the entire Boston community. This includes managing all aspects of the
projects, from design to grand opening, with a keen eye towards ensuring that each project is
completed on time, on scope, and within budget. This person will manage end-to-end
development of between 5-10 new food forests at a time.
The ideal candidate has experience in park building and landscape construction
management, with a balance of project management skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.
They are a creative problem-solver, detail-oriented, and an effective communicator who can
build relationships with diverse stakeholders. They have strong project management
experience, and understand the construction and/or design process of landscape or park
development. A passion for food forests and a commitment to community collaboration in
creating sustainable green spaces is essential.
Responsibilities
Construction management
● Manage contractors to ensure construction projects are completed on time,
within budget, and according to specifications.
● Manage infrastructure construction, e.g., mainline water installation, solar
power systems, irrigation systems.
● Build partnerships with construction suppliers, e.g., for fruit tree provision,
materials, etc.
● Develop and implement safety protocols, and ensure they are followed.
● Report weekly, and monthly on progress, indicators, to the Engagement &Construction Director.
● Ensure projects are efficiently, effectively and safely implemented in
accordance with organizational procedures, local regulations, contracts and
policies.
● Meticulously manage project documentation, including field reports, permitting
and inspection requirements, and project budget
● Support community engagement in partnership with the Community
Engagement Manager to foster engagement throughout the construction
process, keeping stakeholders informed and involved.
Manage funding & land transfer process with the City of Boston
● Manage land acquisition and transfer for food forest sites.
● Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in government and
community organizations to move projects forward.
Support FF scoping & design support
● Create new park base plans and site condition plans to guide construction and
ensure adherence to zoning regulations.
● Obtain necessary permits and demonstrate a thorough understanding of local
zoning ordinances.
Qualifications
● Either a Bachelor’s Degree & 3 years of related experience, or 5 years of related
experience with demonstrated success in project management and/or construction
management.
● Ability to read construction plans, site documentation, and site inventory.
● Experience with ecological urban agriculture or permaculture.
● Demonstrated experience with the design, communication, and documentation of
construction processes.
● Experience building and managing relationships effectively to meet project goals.
● Demonstrated experience in use of CAD software.
● Ability to use Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
● Experience proactively communicating goals and updates, and eliciting input from
various stakeholders.
● Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
● Valid driver’s license, clean driving record.
