I would ask what is the expected amount of foot traffic? If the traffic is not in an urban setting (your words) and foot traffic can be controlled (im thinking circulation from entry of building to parking area) why not eliminate an overally engineered system entirely. Look into using locally available gravels bounded by naturalistic edging in the…[Read more]

I’d guess that if you couldn’t find a good description of “progressive urbanism” then there probably isn’t one to be found. It sounds like it could be any urban idea that is deemed progressive. If that’s true, it would have no particular relationship to New Urbanism or any other idea, I suppose. The term and idea of “landscape urbanism” has a much…[Read more]

Humans are innately religious whether they be atheists, Hare Krishnas, or just good ol’ soccer moms – religion is whatever your life centers around and recently we’ve joined in a zealous Jonesing fest to see who can be the most dedicated to the faith of global warming (hereafter referred to as HICCUP – Human-Induced Climate Change is Uncon…[Read more]

Don’t cover the flange! they will do FINE with architectural pavers over them! Pines are not great for that, but if they are mature trees (how big are the Pines?) they are worth a lot of money, so try to save them..There are many other biotic systems that are currently livng in those trees, and when you cut them down, you will loose them all,…[Read more]

Take a look at DeepRoot. They have a product called Silva Cell that might do the trick. Although, I am not sure how it works with existing trees. Here’s a link – http://www.deeproot.com/products/silva-cell/silva-cell-overview.html

Would a world-wide summit of design professionals be more effective? Or industry CEO’s? I think it’s a problem with some very complex contributing factors, and needs to be tackled from all angles. Politicians are ineffective because they are the only group trying to do something about it en masse.

Graphics 16 years, 4 months agoHi James,
Actually, my professor introduced me to your work this past summer, my first semester in LA, and it was he who let me know about your rendering techniques and color usage. In fact, our first shot at perspectives involved 20 minute perspective-making sessions that aimed to emulate your graphics.
I could only hope that if he hadn’t told…[Read more] -

Interesting article. I would have to agree with Dr. Hanson, the meetings have to fail. Here’s my free market perspective:
I think most people would agree that the price for energy does not reflect the true cost for our economic and climatic woes. To me, it only seams that the dollar stands as the best way to redirect future climate decisions. We…[Read more]

I appreciate the disclaimer. However, I would like to suggest an addendum to the disclaimer that if we are going to be civil in this discussion, we exclude such horrendous crimes as nazism and slavery. There is in no way a correlation between these crimes against humanity and global climate change other than their connection to government. And to…[Read more]

Graphics 16 years, 4 months agoHi Vanessa; glad you’re having success with the colored pencil techniques. You have a good eye! I do use a cream pencil combined with peach on almost all buildings and hardscape at the very beginning of coloring a drawing, then wash over them with whatever color will best depict the material I’m envisioning…terra cotta, slate blue. etc. The…[Read more]

Thank you Nanda! Mike, I’m also hoping to take the CA section at the end of the month and have been searching for study materials to no avail, other that Nanda’s post.
