IFLA Europe General Assembly 2013 takes place in Berlin!
You may not have considered being part of the core activities of the IFLA Europe GA or the BDLA 100 year celebrations but we would like to offer you an additional opportunity to benefit from the magnificent landscape diversity of the host city!
Within the framework of the GA and BDLA celebratory events in Berlin during the weekend of the 21/22 September, you are cordially invited to participate in a Berlin ‘open-space and workshop tour’.
Organised by the IFLA Europe Communications Group and landscape architects living and working in Berlin, our goal is to show you the best and most diverse of Berlin on Sunday 22nd September from 10:00 am till 2:00 pm (open-ended afternoon .
In 7 steps and 7 stops we will discover together and critically discuss how the story of landscapes and city planning are deeply connected. At every stop we will introduce you to the context and open the discussion for extensive debate.
Listed below are the ‘alternative’ tour details, please ask if you need more information:
Landscape Berlin – a success story? – How the city deals with its past, and strives to become the alternative green capital
1.) Regierungsviertel: The new face of the re-united Germany – a new definition of political open-space? 2.) Tiergarten versus Jewish Memorial: Impacts of World War II 3.) Potsdamer Platz: First urban transformation project of the re-unified Berlin 4.) Gleisdreieck: postindustrial area and nature in the town 5.) Moritzplatz urban gardening or ‘guerilla’ gardening: Bottom-up and community initiatives in landscape
6.) Between Jannowitzbrücke and Ostbahnhof: Inhabitants fight for their (green) spots next to the former Berlin wall
7.) Tempelhofer Feld: The huge open space site of the former airport in the middle of Berlin
We also highly recommend you attend the ‘Pecha Kucha’ event on Saturday afternoon between 4.00 and 6.30 pm (where space allows). Member associations will present their best professional practice and most pressing LA concerns in short, sharp, intense format. An event not to be missed!
YOU are the future of our profession! We want you to discuss with us the current concerns and opportunities for landscape architecture during this tour. You are very welcome to join us! Please send a brief confirmation of your attendance (before 20 September) to: laure.aubert@gmail.com
NO Participation fee: but please bring your AB zone public transport ticket and picnic (as well as an umbrella, we can arrange the interesting content, but unfortunately not the weather!)
Meeting point: Sunday 22nd 10:00 am at Washingtonplatz (South Entrance of Hauptbahnhof)
