Hi Chad – What got me interested in Inclusive design? You’re right, it was my work with therapeutic gardens, especially gardens in the healthcare setting. But then branching out from that, thinking about taking the design principles used for therapeutic gardens in places of healing and broadening to other places where people play and learn. Tara Vincenta and I did a Webinar with KaBoom! this spring that members might be interested in: “Nature-Based Learning and Play for Children with Autism and Special Needs.” More info on this TLN Blog post. Basically I believe that play, for all ages of people but especially for kids, is essential and it’s up to us to design and program spaces that serve all abilities. To be continued! Are you going to ASLA this week? Perhaps we’ll meet there.
