We are strictly a design firm. I personally have some construction experience. When I hire, the FIRST thing I ask is about ANY hands-on experience. It’s extremely important in the residential design and PM environment. Although contractors are very helpful to interns during the construction process, I find that the construction mindset makes it easier to design with construction process and Building Code in mind which assists in 1) possibilities in phasing the building of a project with tight budgets, 2) design revision flexibility, 3) communication with contractors, 4) giving the client the security that you know what you are doing and any future process input will not be scrutinized as intensely saving time & money. Around here experience is a must.
