no doubt there, our LA program did contribute a lot, though it is still a small percentage of the knowledge we must have in order to become competitive in our field. nothing beats actual professional experience. don’t get me wrong, having a good foundation is essential in order for us to easily adapt to actual current practice in our country or ever outside.
doing summer OJT is ok, but it might be better if part of our program encourages students to do part -time jobs in local LA firms, this means allowing lesser loads (units) to accomodate this (it might not be required). the difference of this from OJT is that the students will be regarded not just a trainee but someone who is part of the team. this would be beneficial to both the student and the firm. win-win situation.
and just a note… it is being implemented in foreign universities.
