There’s enough less academic folks who can write for a mainstream audience, I personally find most PhD driven writing in any field to be intentionally difficult to digest. Like Birnbaum and others I would like to read more LAs writing in mainstream media to a broader audience, though Arieff seems to imply that we don’t even have enough architectural criticism in general. What I take away from this is the attachment to the place you write about, its evident when you hear designers talk about their background or projects that they build close to home; a stark contrast to their description of some project half way across the globe…
