I’m a student and our studio is doing a project in Detroit, MI (more specifically Highland Park, MI). My classmates and I are having a hard time finding detailed data for the area. The city and state websites offer a very limited amount of information as far as topography, land coverage/use, etc. Does anyone have or know of some better resources we could use? We’d appreciate any help!
Hi Chelsea, if you have experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS/ArcView then the Michigan Center for Geographic Data may be of help to you. They’ve got some pretty complete maps avaiable here: http://www.mcgi.state.mi.us/mgdl/
Additionally, I would look at the website for the Southeast Michigan Coalition of Governments (SEMCOG). They keep a lot of info on the communties of the seven counties surrounding Detroit. Just google SEMCOG and you should be able to find their website. Best of luck!
