Found a great video series, “So you wanna be an architect…”, and I’m wondering what the landscape architecture equivalents are? My YouTube search-fu is weak; have anything bookmarked, or seen something you think’s worth sharing?
June 22, 2009 at 5:58 pm #173910Clayton MunsonParticipantcheck the videos section on this site. It is under share at the top of the page.
June 22, 2009 at 6:37 pm #173909Jay NeelyParticipantIt’s a good resource, but 137 videos (~6 hours of time if they average 3 minutes) is a lot to sort through. 😛
Hoping someone will have a clear recommendation for a video that explains & inspires people about landscape architecture.

What is a Landscape Architect
What is landscape ArchitectureYou don’t have to watch all of them. You can usually get an idea of what it’s about by reading the title and the tags.
June 22, 2009 at 8:58 pm #173907Jay NeelyParticipantGood info — not very inspiring, though, and it does take some watching to determine that.
On the flip side, found a few very cool videos (from Vimeo, where my search fu is apparently stronger) related to landscape architecture that don’t manage to convey much info about the profession:
Plan Abu Dhabi – Urban Planning Short Film
WorldBuilder (Virtual architecture, landscape & otherwise)

I also have a few clips on my folio (http://www.land8lounge.com/profile/NickAceto) (shameless self promo) page which don’t explain much about LA, or the projects for that matter, but they may be a fun way spend 5 minutes.
This is an oldy (Ian Mcharg interview) but lots or actual substance on the foundations of LA here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LA41LaEddlk
Ian Mcharg was on of the forefathers of environmental analysis and design predating GIS.
If you’re thinking about getting into design at all you need to do your due diligence and watch:

You may have better luck searching under names of principals and firms such as EDAW, Hargreaves, Sasaki for their public presentations. Do some digging. You may actually need to read a bunch of stuff too.

http://www.land8lounge.com/forum/topics/what-is-landscape-architecture
and just found these with the search function:
June 22, 2009 at 11:10 pm #173904David J. ChiricoParticipantI don’t know about the LA equivalents, but I did see a documentary worth a discussion on the Land Lounge. It was called The Unforeseen, by Laura Dunn.
I would be interested to hear feedback on that movie. If anyone has seen it or sees it in the near future, let me know what you thought.

Were you able to find some of the recent information helpful?
June 23, 2009 at 6:13 pm #173902Roland BeinertParticipantThis is a permaculture video, but I still find it inspiring: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sohI6vnWZmk&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fpermaculture%2Eorg%2Eau%2F
June 23, 2009 at 6:25 pm #173901Roland BeinertParticipantI suppose the video I just posted is pretty off topic, though. I don’t know of any videos about the profession of landscape architecture, only ones about specific la’s. I think I remember finding a video series on Jens Jensen a the library in Madison, WI once. Louisiana Public TV had an biography-type show about a landscape architect associated with LSU.
