So after reading this article (http://www.asla.org/land/LandArticle.aspx?id=28640) and others like it, there seems to be a very optimistic view of the profession from those who are outside of it.  I have just started my Junior year and have worked several years for an LA firm until things turned south, but what amazes me is that so many within the profession seem to have a doom and gloom outlook.  I understand that at times it is difficult to see the horizon while you are in the woods, but my question is:  While others see our profession rising in the future do those of you who are practicing foresee the same thing and why or why not?

I don’t see anything in that article that implies that there is a mechanism for growth in landscape architecture. It sounds more like there might be more respect for participation of landscape architects in these types of projects. It sounds like he identifies that there are situations that can be improved by landscape architects.

The thing that is missing is a client who has the money and desire to hire people to get it done. The most likely client is government agencies for these types of projects. There might be some more stimulus money left for such projects, but there is not a strong sentiment out there for more fed stimulus money to be found and state budgets are crashing all over the place.

I don’t think this is an indication that something is going to turn around.
