ParticipantHi All,
What is the 8 referencing in Land8?
Or in other words what does Land8 mean?
I understand the ‘Land’ part I figure, but not the eight.
Land date?… a date with the land…?
Or something about the number 8 in reference with landscape architecture.
What’s the intended meaning?
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Scott

ParticipantWhat’s the meaning of Land8, as to the Land and 8 being put together as such?

ParticipantNumber 8? I always thought it was an upward facing infinity symbol, as in; “Land to infinity and beyond!”…lounge. (Sorry. I was wondering the same thing the other day, and I have no idea)

ParticipantWe are not allowed to tell you what the ‘8’ means. Instead you will have to figure it out for yourself through a series of clues hidden throughout the website. The answer will astound you!
Once you understand the true meaning of the ‘8’, you will become a full member in the lounge. Until then… good luck.

ParticipantPhil is on the right track!
The number 8 has numerous symbolic associations throughout all cultures:
- Perfect rhythm
- Regeneration/A New Beginning
- Infinity
- Without an end
- Friendship
- Interconnections
- Harmony
- Multiplicity
Plus, there are eight winds and intermediate directions of space: N, S, E, W, NE, SE, SW and NW

ParticipantVery interesting,… that makes my think of other numbers and their numerous associations, such as ….,6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13,… but maybe 8 has the most comprehensive fit with ‘Land’ in the direction of landscape architecture as a practice. The symbolic associations you’ve presented cover a tremendous range, potentially infinite range.
Thank you Lara, and the community

Participant…or, 8 could suggest to renew in the unknown; 7 days in a week…on the eighth day we take a leap of faith into a new adventure…8, the atomic number for oxygen…together, breathe in a new beginning…

ParticipantI think that’s the winner, hence the hush of explanation that I’ve known.
Good to know about West8. It’s ok, we all have our secret or not so secret inspirations.
