New MLA Program: UoCalgary

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has any experience attending a new MLA program. U of Calgary is currently intaking students for the 2nd year the program has been in place.

I know it is hard to tell what students can produce and even what the program is like because they have not yet had to hire all of the faculty for all years of study. But, I am wondering if anyone has tried a program out in similar stages. Has it been challenging? Too linear? Or, has it given you room to mold the program and really try out what you want to create?

I’d check and see what the senior faculty and director of the program has done previously (assuming they’ve taught at a senior level elsewhere, it may give some indication of where they’re headed).  Even in established programs they rely on student feedback, but the changes come after you so it’s not a self driving aspect (that can be established in your electives and thesis).
