Mike, I’d like some input on adequate preparation for and good timeliness of attending the May LARE training. I’m interested in getting licensed again, after having graduated with an MLA from NCSU School of Design in ’87, working as landscape architect in the Ormond Beach and State of Florida Parks Departments ’88-’90, passing the licensing exam in 1990 and letting the license lapse in 1993. I’ve continued working for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and for the past 5.5 years have managed a regulatory program reviewing site, grading, drainage and landscape plans, etc. for the state’s coastal construction control line program. I’ve done little actual design work in the interim but have taught as adjunct faculty at the FAMU landscape architecture Master’s program for 5 years. I’m willing to purchase study materials, take on-line or attended courses, and learn the new stuff like irrigation and stormwater. I’m not in any great rush, but worry about too long a time lapse between studying for and taking the exam. Any advice for someone in my situation would be helpful. Oh, and did I mention that I’m cheap and don’t won’t spend a lot of money without getting good results.
Thanks a lot,
Fritz Wettstein, Tallahassee
