Gökçe Gerekli Yilmaz

She was born in 1983, in Izmir. After having graduated from Lycée Saint Joseph Français d’İzmir in 2001, she continued her education at Bilkent University, with full scholarship in Landscape Architecture and Urban Design Department. In 2006, she received her bachelor degree after taking the First Prize in Barış Eyikan Kılınç Urban Design Student Competition. Meanwhile, their project ‘Gentrification of Antioch’s Historical District’ received Honorary Mention in Open UNESCO/ 2006/Carleton University International Student Competition. Same year, she began her master studies as a scholarship student at Graphic Design Department of Bilkent University. In 2007, with a team of architects, she joined ‘Just Jerusalem 2050’ Competition held by MIT, and their conceptual project of ‘Healing Jerusalem’ took part of the international exhibitions. In 2009, upon completing her master thesis, ‘Land Art on the border between Topology and Atopology’ and thesis project ‘Nonlocalizable Displaced Mirrors’, she received her master of Arts Degree. Same year, VDM Verlag published her book, entitled as ‘Land Art on the Border Between Topology and Atopology: A particular involvement in the issues of art and philosophy’.

She is currently working as a senior landscape architect and urban designer in one the most prestigious design offices in Istanbul. She is acting as a design team leader consisting of three to five architects and she develops, alternates and criticizes designs and drawings for the landscape architecture projects. She designs computer-based architectural visuals and renderings for project presentations. One of her main motives is to draw freehand sketches and combine traditional practices with digital platforms. She demonstrates an understanding of the relationship between design and constructibily. She works on the project coordination phases of multiple projects with multiple disciplines and in addition she takes role in managing client relationship. She supports in preparation of proposals and participate in public presentations.
