I served in Poland from 99-01, and personally no one place made an impact on my design, but rather the entire European style. It was the first time I lived in a place that had the typical European streetscape of a business on the 1st floor and residences for the next 3 or 4 on top of the business. Something so simple, but growing up in MO you don’t see much of that. Poland is one of the prettiest countries I’ve ever seen, and visited. While in Poland I was able to see Germany and the Czech Rep. as well. Same thing there, architecture is amazing. Plus, they really know how to design for pedestrians too on a large scale. City squares, and plazas are great spaces for public gathering, with out being so big you get lost in the scale. The gardens there are very old and well kept, mature and inspiring. My biggest regret is that when I was there I had a old camera. What I wouldn’t give to go back with my current digital camera for 2 years. I would have thousands of awesome pictures! Oh well, motivation to go back with my wife and kids, right? Hope that helps.
