Gas Works in Seattle, Washington, is an old industrial site that was turned into a park. The site allow great access to the water as well as walking paths throughout the site. As you walk throughout the park, you walk by the existing industrial structures and machines that really adds the the sense of place. The best part about the park is the amazing view of downtown Seattle. Great project.

    1. How do we make society aware of where our food comes from and how it is produced? How can we spread new ideas of sustainable “food” planning?

    2. With thoughts of the future and lose of certain resources, where do we start planning our land use to best utilize the landscape we have around us? Does this planning start locally, state wide, our do we try to encourage this on a wider scale? What is the most effective way?

This is the former American Thread Company building, in Windham Ct. This was part of the Windham Mills brownfield redevelopment project. This project was successful in the remediation of the site but fails because they have been unable to follow through with the project. The completion of the project keeps getting stalled because of money issues. There is not enough funding to really get this project off the ground and have it be a successfully used place.

There is definitely a sustainable revolution that is growing stronger and stronger everyday. This revolution is being driven by our reaction to the ever changing environment. The environment is changing because of our growing population, which leads to over use of our natural resources that we are taking from the earth. In past we have not been giving back and taking care of the environment, we have been harming it. Within the sustainability revolution there are “green” movements that include renewable energy practices and organic food and other products. Our economic crisis is encouraging this movement. Practices within sustainability can provide new jobs, local economy boosts (through use and purchases local foods and other products), and it allows us to start giving back to the environment through conservation of resources that have maybe caused the economic decrease in the first place.

I would like to read a Walk and the Woods and the World Without Us. They would both be great books to read for this class.
