Hello all, I’ve gotten some emails about post in this thread.  I’m sorry to inform you guys but I decided to not major in LA, I’ve decided to major in Interactive design & media.  I however do have a friend whom has just graduated from the LA program at my school.

I don’t think I ever posted my work from high school, it’s more architecture stuff then LA, but here it from sophomore from high school.

Thanks I wanted to work on learning some stuff over the summer before I go to college.  I’ve taken courses at my high school for Illustrator and Photoshop.  Like I’ve said I’ve taken 3 years of Autocad and I’m pretty good at that, I’m just getting into revit I’ve only completed a simple but detailed house.  My fathers a landscaper with his own business and I’ve worked with him for years so I know a few things already and he knows a LOT about nature and horticulture since hes been doing landscaping for over 20 years.

I’ve trying to save most of my work from my cad courses but our school servers aren’t the best, they go down pretty frequently and I’ve actually lost just coming in the next day and I’m missing 3 things I’ve done.  I can show you guys some of the work I’ve done, it’s mostly architecture stuff but it has some LA stuff in it.  My best project isn’t done yet and it’s from when I was a sophomore, I’m going to try to finish it and touch it up with the little the free time I have but I should be able to get it done in a few weeks.

Well I applied to Philadelphia university, Temple, and Penn state main.  Philadelphia was my favorite and that’s the one I chose.  I didn’t even complete my application for temple because they lost my transcripts in my mail twice so I just said screw it because at that point I had already gotten accepted into Philadelphia.  Penn state main campus didn’t accept me at first but now they keep sending me mail that they want me.

I think I just might switch to architecture and try to do that for a few years, get a teaching certificate and do that.  Maybe even try to run for mayor like someone said in a post earlier on this thread, because I’m pretty in politics.

Yup Autocad is what I’m most experienced with, I’ve been trying to learn revit because I don’t think I’ve seen any architect use autocad for the plans I see at my work.  It looks like everything is done in revit anymore.  Electrical engineer sounds pretty good actually, but the college I already put money and stuff down for doesn’t offer that.  I’d probably have to ask for my money back before May 1st the day the stop refunds and apply to another college for the spring.  I really don’t want to do that but I’m gonna look into it and see if it’s worth it.

I’m pretty convinced I shouldn’t go into LA but I’m still not completely sure.  I was never so sure about LA or A its self but I figured I knew a pretty good amount of it.  I’m looking more at architecture and wondering if thats doing better then LA.  I was stupid and didn’t complete my other college applications once I got accepted into my favorite.  They don’t have that many majors available and I really don’t want to wait to go the spring to go to college.  I’m just at a complete loss and really stressed, I feel like I’m having a mid-life crisis at 18 lol.

Well I don’t want just the positive, I want the truth, if it’s really hard finding work and you think it’s only going to get harder then I want to know that.  If you think it’s going to bounce back and things will be easy in 4 years then I want to know that.  I just want honest opinions and experiences.

To be honest I don’t know what they are, I’ll look them up but usually I like working with requirements and restrictions because it’s more of a challenge.  In my CAD classes we had to design houses with restrictions but some some kids asked if they could just design what they wanted and my teacher let them.  Those kids generally designed 8,000 sqft mansions with no restrictions and non-effective living spaces.  I tried to design an effective and cheap suburban home with a limit of being in the range of 2,000 sqft, and at the time I didn’t even know LA existed but I had a really fun time designing the site plan of the house and layout of the house.  The layout was more difficult in my opinion but I had a lot of fun designing the site plan.

Here is where people were saying LA is going to be dead in a few years.  I realize it’s outdated but they’re also LAs so I have to take their opinion into consideration even if it’s outdated because it’s one of the few that I have.

Yah my mom who’s a nurse said the job market goes up and down, first their was a overflow and nurses then they didn’t have enough nurses, back to overflow and then they need nursing instructors. So I’m hoping I can stay with this major and have good security and a decent amount of pay.  I just haven’t heard that many LAs say good things about how the profession is going.  I’ve even heard a lot of people say it’s going to be useless in 4-10 years but I don’t know how true that is.
