I have to say this is certianly an example of Hyper Design. I think they could cut back a bit on the paths.
This view is not really an acurate vision of the plan view. Clicking thru the link provides some interesting views.
I don’t like the town square at all. -

I meant a non-office job like design/build. I did not mean to imply that it is not part of the LA realm. I have done both. I don’t see many design/build professionals complaining about hours or pay. It is sell or be gone. Pretty simple. You change your perspectives about art and client input pretty quickly under those circumstances.

I am beginning to wonder if people posting have ever worked in other fields like retail or even design/build. Employer abuse is prevelant everywhere. Without a collective voice, employees have no leverage and no say in the enterprise. I know many people will say, it’s my company why should the employees get a say at how I run it? Well they have a…[Read more]

I find it so sad that people have bought this propaganda hook, line and sinker. Why is management never blamed for pumping millions into bad ideas and walking away with their share and then coming back and saying…well we had some bad ideas and now have to take it out of your salary.
Some info from Think Progress.com
As David Madland and Karla…[Read more] -

Umm. As a municipal employee and long time taxpayer in VA I can tell you there is not actually a budget surplus in VA. It is smoke and mirrors and is dependant on stimlus funding for transportation. The current Republican governer seems to have forgotten that.
Virginia is a right to work state and does have very low union participation. It is al…[Read more] -

Does management get any blame at all for the destruction of the auto industry or just the union workers who did as they were told? (While being paid middle class wages)

Pat S. Rosend replied to the topic A crappy job is better than no job at all….right? How low would you go? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 13 years, 9 months ago
That is a tough story.
My current situation is also no raises for the past three years, with the potential of two more w/o. We had some furlough days, but not extra hours for sure. My job is stable , just the pay is going the wrong way. In the late 80’s when the industry crashed, I was in a similar situation to yours except: the 20% reduction…[Read more] -

It sounds like you don’t even want the job. If that is the case, then ask for 50k and see what happens. At tleast you will know.

How long has this “offer ” been out thre? I have worked in a number of oranizations ad things change quickly. I would get back to them , express your interest and ask for the details. My experience has been that most companies will offer a salary number if you ask them. A HR manager will probably be better at negotiaing skills than a design…[Read more]

Learning to delegate is an important skill. Your description makes me think you might be tough to work for. You would insist on everything the way you knew best and not let anyone “pull the wool” over your eyes because you knew how to do everything. My boss does no design work. She is a planner actually. She did when she was at my position, but…[Read more]

You said this so much better than I ever could. The one skill in the real world that is not taught in schools, is the politics of working.

Ditto on the family issues. esp. at CE firms. No sympathy there. Last of the male old school management types I guess. The little women are better off at home taking care of those things rather than taking a “man’s” job. Blech.
Also be careful about working from home or remotely. As the CE’s at my last firm found out. If you can do the work at…[Read more] - Load More
