Rafael was born in México City, where he studied Architecture and Urban Planning at the Universidad Iberoamericana graduating in 2004. After working with different architecture and landscape firms, he teamed up with Maria Guadalupe and founded dlc in 2004.
In 2006, dlc teamed up with Susana García, senior partner in Serrano Arquitectos and won a competition to build a Women’s Memorial Park inside Monterrey’s, most important green area called “Parque Fundidora”. The project and construction was sponsored by “El Museo del Vidrio” (The Museum of Glass) and Grupo Vitro (Leading glass company in México) and incorporated a “glass bridge” that crossed the project from side to side.
Rafael has always been interested in architecture visualization, landscape and shares the same design principles with her founding partner Maria Guadalupe.
