Just an hour ago I was looking at an LA Mag and saw a concrete design that made me feel jealous for its mastery of subtle beauty, effectiveness and functionality. I knew I had felt this feeling before.
As hesitant as I am to admit my jealousy, I would propose that my jealousy in the prescence of a particular design or design element is an identifying measure for great design.
