The Arboretum Director wanted a simple design that allowed access to the pond and was simple for him to build. It is a well used spot in the Arboretum that was becoming difficult to maintain due to hill slump into the pond area. My design attained both simplicity and creating a sense of place. The curves of the pond it sits beside are emulated in the curves of the steps and retaining wall.
