Devil’s Slide Tunnel Revegetation Project

This aerial shows compost being blown onto a constructed slope made from rock spoils from the Devil’s Slide (Tom Lantos) tunnel construction. Top soil had been saved and placed on top of the spoils. You can see the oldest part of the slope is already vegetated from the seed bank in the top soil and from hydroseeding. Due to intense winds off the ocean, a Southern aspect, and compacted soils a variety of soil augmentation techniques were used to increase infiltration, add organics, and protect new seeding and planting work.
