El Chorrillo – Physical and Cultural Context

This image prepared by Bret Peters and his students at Penn State University shows the context of El Chorrillo. It is now at the ‘end’ of the linear city, however, as the canal zone opens up to development, El Chorrillo could end up being at the hinge point or ‘center’ of the city. El Chorrillo is at the edge of the canal, below Cerro Ancon (the freedom hill where important historical events occurred-the hill has important national symbolism), next to Casco Viejo, a World Heritage site, on the way to, and next to the Amador Peninsula-an important entertainment zone.
