GILLETTE, Wyo. – Energy Capital Economic Development (ECED), the official economic development organization for Campbell County and the city of Gillette, Wyoming, is pleased to announce the hiring of Mike Shober as its new vice president of operations. Shober will support CEO Phil Christopherson in all aspects of economic development operations, such as business retention, business expansion efforts, incubator programs, fundraising, property management and much more.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mike Shober as vice president of operations at Energy Capital Economic Development,” said Christopherson. “Shober was born and raised in Gillette and has deep ties in Campbell County. His broad experience in the business industry will help strengthen our partnerships and continue our efforts.”
Shober has more than 25 years working in IT, general contracting, mining and non-profit, as well as expertise leading business development projects for several companies, most of which are Gillette-based. Throughout his professional career, Shober has been tasked with managing numerous stakeholders, such as C-suite executives and foreign contractors. He most recently served as a technician at Gillette-based Peabody Energy.
“I am excited for the opportunity to work alongside the individuals making Campbell County a great place to live and own a business,” Shober said. “Through business retention, expansion, and recruitment, it is my mission to help continue to create a strong and diverse economic future for the place that’s been my home for more than 40 years.”
Shober earned an MBA in business and project management from Colorado Technical University and received a Bachelor of Science in psychology and sociology from the University of South Dakota. He also holds a project management professional certification from The Project Management Institute. Shober often gives back to the community by volunteering at various organizations like the Critical Incident Stress Management Team and the Campbell County sheriff’s posse search and rescue team.
