The aim of constructing the bower on the courtyard between historical tenant houses was to create a shelter for bikes and a hidden space to place communal bins. Designing and introducing a new component into the courtyard, we focused on fitting the existing composition, while keeping in mind it’s users: people and greenery.
The trapezoidal roof diversifies the height of the interiors. The part containing bins is lower, which makes it an opposite to the more accessible and open zone with bikes.
Besides classic bikes, people living around can also park two cargo bikes underneath the tribune – an additional stairs-shaped structure. The tribune serves as a sitting and also as a part of the playground, as it’s lowest step contains boxes for keeping toys.
The space under the roof is divided with vertical wooden planks. Apart from few steel supporting beams, wood is the main material used in construction. The roof is covered with ceramic roof tiles along with the transparent ones, which let the sunlight deep into the interior.
