Ok, so I’ve read through several resume and portfolio discussions on this forum and I am really curious to find out what people here will think about mine. I am actively seeking a job as an entry-level landscape architect, and while I do manage to get an interview here and there, ultimately someone else always gets the position. (The people that are kind enough to say why state they preferred another candidate with more experience.)
Anyway, I want to see how you think I can improve. Thanks!

As I have recommended to other recent University LA graduates…..it might help you to go to http://www.asla.org and take a look at several of the LA’s Resume’s & Portfolios….compare yours with theirs.
Your Resume’ just doesn’t work. It needs to be in a much more “professional” format.
Your Portfolio needs work. I think because of our very difficult economic times, LA firms really are in a position to hire the very best & brightest young LA grads out there…..so, the Top 5% from University LA programs are going to have the edge. And yes, having some “experience” definitely helps.
Good Luck to You!

Thank you for your reply, but it would be very helpful if you could be more specific about what needs work on my portfolio. Again thanks!

With all of the respect I can possibly offer you…..your Portfolio just needs a lot of work. I feel it doesn’t measure up to most of the Porfolios I’ve viewed by recent LA graduates. That’s WHY I suggested that you look at the portfolios (and resumes’) posted on http://www.asla.org. There are MANY outstanding portfolios on the ASLA website……..and those LA grads are your competition.
Your Resume’ is way too busy and unprofessional. Again, look at Resume’s other young LA’s have posted on http://www.asla.org. You don’t have to be “just like” everyone else…it’s good to be creative and do what you can to make yourself “stand out above the competition”, but, you have to do it in a very professional manner.
I hope this info. is a bit more helpful to you.
Kind Regards,
Bob
