Brian…..I just now GOOGLED looking for info. on SECTION F of the Florida State LA Exam.
There’s a Landscape Architect who wrote a “PRACTICE EXAM” that you can order. This looks like it would be a LOT of help to give you an idea of what materials you should study in advance. I found it very easily.
The point I was trying to make all along is…..(well, of course there will most likely be more job opportunities for LAs in larger cities – even some mid-size cities). But, if you look at the “majority” of the jobs listed on the LAND 8 Job Board, they are located in “high cost of living that are also high State tax cities”.
Cities like San…[Read more]
To: FeelandPed. I looked at the LINK you provided. IMO, this info. is NOT accurate. For example…the median LA income in California cities are WAY TOO HIGH. I did additional research and found that in CALIFORNIA….the Median Salary runs between $52,000.00 and $65,000.00. The ONLY way you’re going to earn a SIX figure income in California…[Read more]

I’m really happy for “Tampere, Finland”. If the United States did NOT provide over $50 Billion in Foreign Aid to so many Nations around the World……..just maybe, the U.S. could spend more of our GDP towards our infrastructure and internal problems. The U.S. even provides Foreign Aid to China, Russia & Cuba. I’m wondering if Finland provides A…[Read more]
Just my opinion here (on this thread and others on LAND 8)…if you’re going to express an opinion or try to hold yourself out as an “expert” on any subject with regards to Landscape Architecture…or be critical of other members here on LAND 8…maybe you should have a NAME and PROFILE…and too, seeing some PORTFOLIO samples would be helpful.…[Read more]
Still “name calling” huh, Jeff…nice. And now, hiding behind “Anonymous”. If you’re going to be like that, at least allow members to know WHO you are.
No, I am not xenophobic. I’m sure there are some good LA jobs in Dubai and Kuwait. I just believe American Citizens (LAs) need to go into the jobs with their eyes wide open. There are many…[Read more]
An LA JOB OPPORTUNITY……in HANOI, VIETNAM, really?????? Wait a minute, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 4 years (partly to stay OUT of Vietnam).
Still…looking at the LAND 8 job list. Sure glad I’m NOT a young LA searching for an LA job in the U.S…..way too many jobs in just undesirable cities/States, IMO. I do see a small…[Read more]
Tim…I absolutely intended no disrespect towards your or any of your opinions in this thread. As an LA very close to being retired…..searching for an LA JOB is really not a problem for me. I do continue to do freelance projects from time to time.
What I find is SAD is that LAND 8 states there are 19,000 User Profiles on LAND 8….but, there…[Read more]
I just did some on-line research an was able to establish that YES…the U.S,. Bureau of Statistics DOES take into account “Attrition Rates” when they put together their job projections.
So, again, what I was stating….the Bureau says there will be (100) LA job openings. Then, you look at the 75 U.S. Universities with LA degree…[Read more]
Jeff…I suggest you show a bit more “professionalism” here on LAND 8 Forums….name calling, really? And no, I don’t have problems even at my age getting design work. I just recently completed extensive design services for a 25,000 sq. ft. Luxury residence in Tennessee…the home Owner is a current ball player in Major League Baseball.
And, as…[Read more]
Yes, I DO understand what “attrition rates” mean. But, NOW look at what the U.S. Bureau of Statistic is saying……that the LA profession will grow at a rate of only 4% (NOT 6%) between 2018 and 2028….or a total of 1,000 LA job openings during that 10 yr. period. So, it appears the U.S. Bureau of Statistics have LOWERED the job outlook for…[Read more]
Who comes up with these LAME theories anyway??? Liberal Professors and Liberal Landscape Architecture Students……who rely on ridiculous unproven theories instead of looking seriously at the “science”.
This whole notion that one of the major roles of Landscape Architects is to “SAVE THE PLANET” is getting really old people. Of course our…[Read more]
Give me break, Jeff…..there’s no political agenda here. I ONLY stated the facts.
SO….YOU tell Ellen and other young LA graduates….WHERE are they going to find a job in Landscape Architecture after they spent 4 to 5 years working for that LA Degree???
Oh, I know, maybe they could go overseas to say, KUWAIT, because, they can’t find a job in…[Read more]
Andrew…..I’m not naming any names out of respect for a specific Licensed LA I know. But, that LA graduated with a 5 yr. LA degree 10 yrs. ago. Actually, only worked for a Licensed LA for 2 yrs. (as that was the requirement for that LA to get their State LA license).
This person didn’t join another design firm after those 2 yrs. of private…[Read more]
OK, it’s seems MY math and yours’, Tim don’t really mesh here.
My way of looking @ this is…..The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states that from 2016 to 2026, there will be ONLY a 6% increase in LA jobs (or a TOTAL over those 6 years of ONLY 1,600 job openings).
I understand people retiring, changing careers, dropping out of the work force to…[Read more]
Well, the “job market” really no longer is an issue for me…..but, I do find it fascinating, yet also concerning for younger LA Grads.
Tim….let’s look at the numbers once again. The U.S. Bureau of Statistics says…Landscape Architect jobs will grow at a rate of 6% over the next 10 years (or, 1,600 TOTAL NEW JOBS in that 10 year period). SO,…[Read more]
Well, I tend to believe…that the U.S. Bureau of Statistics who make these job forecasts don’t just pull a figure out of the sky; they most likely use a wide variety of factors or criteria in reaching their conclusions.
So, I think the U.S. Bureau of Statistics took into account…issues like people changing career paths, LAs losing their jobs,…[Read more]

I’d like to respond to your comments on this topic, Andrew.
First & foremost, the “Design” has to be outstanding, creative, in budget and meets all of the clients’ criteria. During the Preliminary Design Process, IMO, you don’t need to be or shouldn’t be on computer software…if you don’t know HOW to sketch or draw/design “by hand”, you need to…[Read more]

I KNEW……it was just a “matter of time”, when I would see that young Landscape Architects would begin to search for
COMPUTER SOFTWARE programs that would actually DO the Landscape Architectural Design work FOR THEM. IF we had software programs that could do all of the skills and had very creative design abilities……we could just eliminate…[Read more]
July 19th…..again, looking at the LAND 8 job board today. 95% of the LA job openings are in locations like California, CT., New York…high cost of living and high state income tax states. I see a few jobs located in Florida…but, you have to be aware that the State of Florida requires a pretty challenging “State of Florida Landscape…[Read more]
