Looking at the typology of housing seen around the Salton Sea. In the extreme heat, but having wind, this apparently poor economic area relative to cities was filled with mobile homes.
To keep the blazing desert sun from the heat, sheds are built over the mobile homes. The small areas above the mobile homes and between the shed roof can accelerate the winds if the situation is right. This motion of the air cools the local climate.
The sheds embrace both sides of the mobile home, one side devoted to a carport, and one side devoted to an outdoor living area.
