LEED in Landscape Architecture 16 years, 5 months agoIts the pathogens. Greywater is almost as bad as sewer water. Getting people sick in the name of LEED does not seem to be the way to go.

One more thing, here is my suggestion. Look for someplace that you’ve not heard from others. Lot’s of people been there and done that. Not that there is anything wrong with seeing Machu Pichu and Arequipa and the other places mentioned. There is a lot, lot more to Peru than those typical sites. Nazca Valley is one example. So, take it all in. Be…[Read more]

Miles,
You lucky b#%*rd, I’m envious. I’ve got too much going on right know, otherwise I would go. First off, I’m peruvian. Born and raised till I was 8. What I can tell you is there is so much to see and explore. You’ve really got to narrow down your objectives and goals. Peru is very diverse, coastal, valleys, mountains, desert, the Amazon. You…[Read more]

Just found this group, and am happy to see it exists. I am actually one of the Masters students you spoke about who is lacking direct landscape construction experience. I agree wholeheartedly with the comments, and see this as a huge problem. Do you have any suggestions on the best methods for acquiring this experience?…[Read more]

I would suggest visiting Valle Chilina outside of Arequipa. You can catch a cab out there from town, and then just walk around. Nice way to see some old school irrigation techniques in action. Also worth taking a peak at is the promenade in Miraflores in Lima. There is one part that has at beautiful mosaic serpentine seat wall. I hung out there…[Read more]

Brian that’s great info again. We have some friends that live in Lima so for the short time we have allocated at the end of the trip we’ll rely on them to take us around. We are planning to hang out in Ollantaytambo (9,200′) before heading to Machu Pichu to acclimate to the altitude. Your experience sounds awful, but makes for some real memories,…[Read more]

Olmsted got it right, and included horses and water-ways.. separated! bridges!
I do not deny road rage against cyclists.. But cyclists can act extremely agressively
. The only problem is, in the fight between cyclists and cars, the sentence for the cyclists is death..obviously..for the car, a dented fender.. -

hi, tqvm for your replied. i really appreciate it..
actually during my practical training, i’ve done a similar project. my principals told me that there are so many obstacle when designing landscape for drug rehab center. i.e to critically think about security (location of tree, any criminal possibilities cause by landscape elements), limitation…[Read more]

LEED in Landscape Architecture 16 years, 5 months agoPotentially greywater could be treated in a bioswale or series of detention ponds, but in California, this system is impossible to permit (Does anyone know of any States who allow this?). However, you can treat stormwater in that method.

Pedestrians and store owners dont want bikes on the sidewalk, car drivers dont want them on the street. Bikers get the in between no mans land-arguably the most hazardous portion of public space. There are car doors opening, peds crossing the street between parked cars, vehicles turning through your lane, swerving motorists, cars pulling out of…[Read more]

these are teeny trees, you can’t talk about harvesting them..I love the red cedar, but will not comment on it’s invasive status in this landscape..I do not know the landscape ..In long island, the tiger salamander is endangered..In virginia, it is common.. This project kept jobs in the nature conservancy, if not creating new jobs..How can you…[Read more]

Roland! You are a biker and you don’t admit how obnoxious and agressive bikers can be? Half the time, when I see report of an accident with a bike/car, i wonder what the heck the biker was doing – all the bikers at ucsd said they don’t stop at stop signs, etc..I do not want to depend on the car seeing me, as a biker..(I love to bike, and have been…[Read more]
