How can you ask questions about history? I love history but do not see how to prove your knowledge of the past will be used in future works (lee’s health safety and wellness comment). If you ask a bunch of multiple choice questions then you are testing memorization, not theory or implementation, and if you ask in an essay from then you are pitting…[Read more]

You would need to ‘print’ to cutepdf, not export. I like to export, but to each his own I guess.
72 dpi should be plenty good for screen quality. If your file size is going over a meg per sheet I’d say you’re doing something wrong or obsessing about detail that doesn’t really matter. In my 50 page portfolio, which contained 4 or 5 pages of…[Read more]

Frank, I noticed that Acrobat automatically display’s pdf’s at 72 dpi as you said. I even tried changing the view dpi to a higher number, yet it made no difference.
About this cutePDF, is this what you are viewing your final pdf in?, or does this some how interface with InDesign? The problem is, I need these to view at a high quality in a…[Read more]

Nick, I setup a custom pdf with compression turned off and bicubic downsizing turned off. But there was no change in view quality. How do you make sure the files aren’t broken?
I really wonder if this just comes down to a difference in view-capability of InDesign vs. Acrobat. It’s very fustrating, because I’m emailing these out as employment…[Read more]

I had this problem for a bit, as it was automatically PDFing at 72 DPI, and there was no way to change the setting. What I ended up needing to do was installing cutePDF, a free pdf writer, and using that as my “print to” setting. That seemed to solve the problem for me.
Good Luck

There could be a whole number of reasons.
If you export to pdf, check all the settings in the dialog box to make sure it’s not raserizing and compressing links and images, this will result in a much larger file though. Make sure your linked files are actually there and not ‘broken.’

What format settings would I change in InDesign?
What I have done previously is saved my InDesign file as a high quality or press quality pdf. Yet it seems to make no difference. The file just doesn’t have the same resolution in Acrobat-Pro as it does in InDesign.

It is, as far as I am concerned, a question of competence..I do not see how one can be a competent landscape arch. and not have a familiaritly with historical precedents. We aren’t making this up from scratch. Also, I think as professionals, we should be invested in promoting knowledge of landscape architecture – it can only raise our status…But…[Read more]

I had a project that I was working on the landscape renderings and the architect was working with a renderer on the interior images, the images for the interior were incredible and nearly photo-real, the problem was the design review committee started looking at the wall sconces, and the fabric on the seats rather than the size and shape of the…[Read more]

Ryan, Thank you for the offer. I did pass the exam. The questions others should carefully study are those requiring judgement, project management, and team coordination decisions. Where I took the exam, I had the ability to comment after specific questions if time allowed, and hopefully those comments have been reviewed. Thanks again.

I disagree. Just as knowledge of ethics is a part of being a landscape architect, one should have knowledge of the history of the profession – it is part of being a landscape architect. A knowledge of the development historically of building materials can help you to recogize problems with new processes, or to recognize a practice that has already…[Read more]

It seems to be happening across many disciplines, hundreds if not thousands of years of knowledge is slowly being neglected and lost. The great modernist designers were all trained in the classics, they new and understood what they were reacting against.

Funny you should say that, I admit to be weak on the hand drawing side ,yet if I can put it into 3D first, I’ll trace it after so at least it looks like I can draw better…this summer however I do plan on practicing my graphics so I don’t sink without my computer.
