Jordan,
Those shareholders also benefited from the bank bail outs…otherwise their shares would be worth nothing. I don’t buy that it is up to the shareholders to regulate the business or to hold them accountable for illegal activities. They hold shares in businesses that are essentially guaranteed not to go under…even when horrible decisions…[Read more] -

Jordan,
I also vote in all my elections…of course I think that in local elections we generally do have more of a voice. On a national level? No. In regards to the home you are upside down in…don’t take the downfall for what the banks did. That was your choice? They literally committed mortgage fraud…literally. WaMu actually blacklisted…[Read more] -

Democratic Socialism is a terrible idea. If you give all the control to the government, then it is ripe for exploitation(russia, china, etc). I am not saying we need to live in world without compassion. I am just saying that individuals know best how to allocate their own funds and compassion. I want to decide the house that I buy, the meal that I…[Read more]

Just be mindful of what you are fighting for! Do we really want socialism as the answer here?
Democratic Socialism actually sounds pretty good to me. I would yield to MLK’s vision of society over Bill Gates & Steve Jobs any day. Free market capitalism has proven to be inhumane time and time again.
We have a country where Bill…

Also check out time savers standards for landscape arch and plan graphics by Davis and Walker. I can bet that they are sitting on the shelf at your schools library… If not inter-library loan them.

Thanks Craig, when I get there later today I’ll stop by and see what I can find. I appreciate the feedback though because from what I have seen CD’s are the most important aspect of LA work. As I have heard before, someone can have the greatest idea in the world but if that vision can’t be relayed to others especially contractors who are…[Read more]

Craig, thank you for the ideas and I completely agree that students should not be spoon fed the information, personally I would be happy to do the leg work myself I’m just not sure where to go to find the information because it was suggested that I go to the city websites and they would have the information.

The construction project that we have for his class will involve: demo, grading, paving, plant installation, irrigation, and electrical. My instructor said the we should be able to find general construction notes on city websites and I looked for several hours trying to find them and couldn’t, so I figured my next best source for things like…[Read more]

Jon, I am sure you didn’t mean it, but to imply that some category of people you call ‘middle class whites’ are ignorant of predjudice, unequal economic systems, and institutionalization of greed is pretty simplistic..Almost all immigrants to the US faced predjudice, either in their home country or when they got here to america. Many many…[Read more]

This is a good chance for you to think out the construction process. The “general construction notes” is the place that you can include all the things that are not spelled out elsewhere on the drawing and are more critical than only being covered by the spec.

These are general planting notes that I put on residential plans . Note that “Digsafe” is an agency in Massachusets that oversees the marking of underground utilities and other states have similar agencies of different names.
Are you looking for site construction notes regarding drainage, paving, sewer, … ?

These are raised septic leaching systems that are heavily regulated. There are state health laws which vary from state to state. We are not allowed to build structures over this type of…[Read more]

You put plot plants on a board over a manhole cover maybe, or sink it below the level of a lawn, but for a larger size you can disguise it with a lightweight box, maybe in sections, that can permanently support the weight of what planting you fancy. Think semi-permanent but strong film sets.
Equally, you can add a fountain or gazebo with hard l…[Read more] -

I have been certified for 9 years. I am not an RLA yet, so it has been helpful in my work. If you know trees its not a difficult test. In addition, you can get CEU credit when you get your continuing education credits for your RLA. Its fairly inexpensive. Keep in mind many LA’s dont know trees. Learning more about them can only be a good thing.
