You don’t get it Craig. I’m not blaming the beauty of Western Colorado for our economic crisis. When you start comparing us to Florida and other beautiful locations with regard to my argument you are out of touch. We don’t have the population or high income mass like some places in CA, FL to support high demand for high quality design. The loc…[Read more]

I don’t think he hates it, he even states, “it succeeds because it offers a green outlet to its many neighbors…”
I think what he doesn’t like is that cities have a “build it and they will come” mentality and are ignoring the fact that New York City is dense and has history, which is why a project like the HL can be successful. He cautions…[Read more] -

Looks good Nick, it’s very easy to read and just the right amount of graphics that an online portfolio should have (though I’m not sure the napkins really compliment your work). Flash is a nice touch, but have you thought about those who might be looking at your website from a device that doesn’t support flash, like an ipad? A lot of…[Read more]

Don’t think you did us some type of service, Andrew. You could read into that ad from a mile away. These guys are not any different from our large corporations who outsource jobs to lower pay employees. I can draw my own conclusions about Lombardi and it’s quite low! The words I prefer to use to describe the firm are forbidden on this thread.…[Read more]

I did not make this thread to call out Lombardi.I want to be clear on that. I brought it up because it emphasized what many people trying to enter the profession were frustrated with. Lombardi’s work is outstanding and that firm has earned the ability to pick and choose its employees. I did not have a problem with the ad specifically, but it…[Read more]

Hate break the news to everyone, a landscape designer is a 2 year associates degree at most schools now so I wouldn’t consider anyone with a BLA a landscape designer. There needs to be a better tern for non lincensed LAs.

With acknowledgements to the Ting Tings:
They call me an intuitive environmentalist like it all comes from space
they call me a tree wizard like knowledge is from heaven or hell
and a landscape consultant cos I try to help anyone, even (ssshh) LAs apace
but I’ve done what I do for 48 years now and it’s clear as a bell
if I do it for free they c…[Read more] -

If someone hasn’t done tests, they should do. So, results please – what is right?
Trees get water and nutrients from fungi in the soil in layers and turning a double spit before planting will disturb these. Also, the job of replanting after felling is not conducive to digging. For veggies etc., folk want the max. possible growth medium and the…[Read more] -

Amy you did not see the original post titled “Summer Internship with Full Time Potential.” This is the post people are responding to. The “Summer Position with Full Time Potential” was only posted after I complained and ASLA agreed to take the original post down. They reposted the position with the words “Summer Position” in lieu of in…[Read more]

I never till my garden, though I do use the garden claw a lot to loosen things up a bit when I am planting.
Love those microbes! -

No-till gardens are great, but have obvious limitations. Heaping composting material on top of existing grades probably won’t be appropriate on many projects. However these are valuable tools in sustainable gardening.

I like it. Funny, how common sense it is. If your soil is compacted you may need to till, but tilling loose soil makes it more compacted. One of those strange places between agriculture and landscape architecture.
I am experimenting in my veggie garden with no or minimal tilling and it seems to work well when there is a bed that was previously…[Read more] -

Posting internships to the JobLink were free at one point. It may have been their way of avoiding paying the $600 to advertise the job opening… just a thought.

Paley depends on being enclosed, of course, but it does not depend on the architecture of the enclosure, so I beg to differ, Jason..Those walls are just walls.
But Paley is probably not the best example, since it is so urban – is is just one of my favorites for great design..
My point remains, I think the that one gets the distinct feeling from…[Read more] -

This is the typical b.s. you see, now likely in all sectors. It existed before, but now its just beyond ridiculous. There is no recourse for the candidates.
