“You” LA’s? From your tone of voice while writing it sounds like you are pointing down at “us”. While you have some good comments in your paragraph, the incendiary tone you take is not very constructive.

I hate to say, if you passed them all the first time you could sound like MaiuBob below. Its good for the ego to fail one of the sections. Keeps you humble. Good luck in June!

Landscape architecture is a large field and not everyone has a job where they perform landscape architectural type work and so they may need additional classes and support. I think you are being a little harsh.

I had to take section E three times before I passed. So, you all are in good company. I’d scratch the red line review and opt for Ray Freeman’s classes. I’m not sure how much you are able to learn from red lines anyway. Though I still failed C twice and E three times after I took his classes, he provides you with a methodology and a way to app…[Read more]

UILA 15 years, 2 months agoAloha! Unfortunately, I haven’t been back to Moscow since leaving in December 1998. I heard about all the changes on campus via my weekly Vandal email report. I lived in the LA studio, library and Art department’s McIntosh computer lab. Those PowerMacs were awesome!

You LAs crack me up with your obsessions to pass the test! That is your first downfall. I didn’t take this exam until my 9th year in the profession and passed all sections on first try. Why? Because I didn’t place any self imposed pressure on myself and go through all the money inducing LARE workshops and fancy preparations. The job you’ve been…[Read more]

Actually, there is a 3% surcharge on all property taxes within the town that is earmarked for affordable housing amongst other things (historic preservation, open space, and recreational projects) which would be in addition to this mitigation, had it gone through.
PS. @ Craig -my favorite story from my early years in school was an on campus…[Read more] -

It was not the town. It is “a regional land use planning and regulatory agency that eas created in 1990 to serve the citizens of the 15 towns of Barnstable County”. This town has come close to getting out of it’s jurisdiction on at least one occaision. Elsewhere is not an option unless they move it more than 30 miles and four towns away because it…[Read more]

The government should not build affordable housing. They should create conditions in which market demands can be met by private enterprise, if the need exists. When government builds public housing is determines the fate of an area for a long time. Just look at the South and West sides of Chicago. Areas that should have high value are caught in a…[Read more]

I do not see in this instance how 7 job additions are going to impact the affordable housing market place in a manner that they can recommend a mitigation measure that will have a relative impact. Why don’t they just have developer fee assesement that went into a fund that goes towards developing affordable housing and or programs. This way the…[Read more]

Let me get this straight. A businessman wants to build a storage facility that will create 7 new jobs. Your town is requiring that he pay $20,000 to address an “affordable housing” issue that will result from the creation of those 7 jobs.
I would have to ask, where is that $20,000 going? How is the town going to use it address the affordable…[Read more] -

Unions……………no!!!!! They are the model of the old and besides there strengths are in numbers so I assuming you are talking about a international union. Most landscape architects work in small firms and the last thing they need is more regulations and intrusion by foreign bodies that only care about their parasitic existence…….

Craig A Raines replied to the topic Ornamental vs Native in Retail in the forum PLANTS & HORTICULTURE 15 years, 2 months ago
I think you can acheive your goals using natives….and especially drought tolerant plant species. I mean it is really a matter of educating your clients to the importance of using both natives and drought tolerant material. I gotta believe that the retail design/look will come around to a look that will require natives/drought tolerant…..
