In NJ, all these rules have to be met before you even sit for the LARE?…?

Did you download the SU model from their site and edit it or create it on your own?

It would be fun to set up a camera to watch how people interact with the bench. Seems like a good study…

Thanks, I didn’t change the dimensions of the bench at all. It’s still 12″ wide x 48″ long x16″ high. The frame still follows the same path, I only wanted to experiment with consistent forms and materials (boxed frame w/ straight lines) instead of the mix of curved/straight and aluminum/stainless. When I get a minute, I’m going to do an all…[Read more]

I don’t see the criteria of a non accredited school and five years in an engineering office meeting either Minnesota or CLARB standards. I attached the links, if you want to help me out on this. Not to beat a dead horse, but it does not even look…[Read more]

Right, but most practice acts rely on CLARB records and a CLARB administered exam. CLARB standards are not the law, but they are the (ideally) research-based basis for the law.

It is NOT what CLARB states that are the standards. It is the individual States that make their own regulations. Remember, title or practice acts are laws. There usually is a route for those who do not have an accredited degree, and it usually takes 10 years before you can get licensed, and very often there are intern rules with that, too. This…[Read more]

What you are saying is in contradiction to CLARB standards, which are the basis for most state laws. Look at CLARB council record requirements – there are tons of options to choose from, INCLUDING non-accredited education, apprenticeships, working under an engineer, etc. So if you believe in “standards” why do you exclude so many options that C…[Read more]

If you are planning for a bench that deters sleeping, deters skateboarders, and doesn’t even welcome sitters for more than a minute before the pain kicks in, why spend the space, materials and budget on a bench at all? A simple sign that says “Keep moving, buddy, nothing to see here” would be cheaper and could be more elegant.

The fact still remains that he did not go to an LAAB accredited school and has not interned under a licensed LA at all.
I think MN rules are excessive, but I don’t think that any state is going to accept a degree from an unaccredited school and only experience in an engineering office. Some will not require any internship, but will require the…[Read more] -

It’s gone too far in my opinion. Sad that the idea skateboarding or a homeless person sleeping on it has created such a monstrosity. Inelegant. Engineered. Clumsy.

I still think he could potentially have a valid ‘restriction of trade’ complaint made unlawful by the Sherman Anti Trust Act, particularly if there is some way he can show that the intent of the 5 year internship is to reduce the number of licenses in the state which is illegal. The law was not made by the board. All laws, while perhaps written by…[Read more]

haha, nice work thomas! but i think it’s obvious that the bench is made for high traffic use, deterring both homeless people and skate boarders and to that end it probably succeeds. if they raised the bar right at the ends or added some sort of knuckle that would even make them harder to use as rail slides. but it is obvious these are fu…[Read more]

Gee, thanks for getting my hopes up T-1… You really had me going there for a minute. But with all your talk of torture and institutionalized madness, I’m afraid the stress of that gov’t job might be getting to you.

Well, I had to buck-up and walk the walk, if I’m gonna talk the talk. Here’s my straight-line version of the Civic Bench. I like to call it the Civil Bench 😉 The colors need a little tweaking but overall I’m pretty happy with it. Check out the corner detail on the base. Dig it. The frame is 1″ boxed steel, two runs, spaced 1/4″ apart. The seating…[Read more]

I love a good burger with the lot (beef, egg, bacon, pineapple, beetroot, onion, lettuce, tomato, cheese), But for the past 5 months i’ve been working in china and it has been a choice of rice or noodles for lunch. It can make going to lunch a hard decision, as the answer determines what i’ll be having for dinner. i.e the opposite to lunch.
