Once upon a time, the reference manual had symbols for plants used in planting plan vignettes. These disappeared in 2006. I suspect this is what you may be referring to.

One vignette solution showed a swale constructed entirely in fill adjacent to a road. There was clearly no need for a swale given the existing topo depicted. They also showed a swale drawn as a half-circle. That’s ridiculous. A half circle would have side slopes varying from 0% to 100%.
