  • I disagree with Cheryl on one statement. Time Savers is the more technical of the two “reference” tomes. LA Graphic Standards covers “soft” subjects better. I’d say that there is considerable overlap between the two, but LAGS covers material like Environmental Factors, Cultural Factors, CPTED, and planning type subject matter better than…[Read more]

  • Kalia,
Just registering and taking the LARE is up to around $2000 at current prices, and CLARB keeps raising them.
Some people do not necessarily need to take a prep class. I would advise people to get some basic information via a class or at the very least pay attention to the available free resources available thru CLARB or the ASLA web site or…[Read more]

  • To see the LARE reviews I am scheduled to teach in the fall of 2016, please go to the EVENTS link of this web-site.

  • Josephine,
Hinze will not begin to cover all of Section 1. It just deals with Construction Contracts and Construction Law.

  • Mr. Wainner is entitled to his opinion, however no review course on the LARE or any other professional licensing exam is ever free to the candidates. The ASLA, various extension programs, and many state chapter charge fees for live or web-based reviews. In the past, CLARB charged serious fees for study aids including “The Road to Licensure” and…[Read more]

  • There are a number of LARE review sessions offered around the country and several individuals on this web site (Including myself) have advertised their courses or expressed opinions herein.
These classes are mainly in the classroom, other than Cheryl Corson’s webinar series. Let’s take a brief objective look at some of the offerings…..
    Corson:…[Read more]

  • Well Bob, I totally agree with you about CLARB. The new format for Design and Grading is pretty sickening in my view.
Possibly the most serious issue is that their specs for the exam are highly flawed and they tend to disregard them. The exam would be less difficult if CLARB provided good resources for preparation…meaning that they explained…[Read more]

  • Here’s some general information that I have gathered by asking pointed questions and looking at all information available on the “new” exam format.
First of all, CLARB claimed, during the ‘redesign” process, that the new format would closely follow the way things are done in an office. Of course no one at CLARB has actually worked in a design…[Read more]

  • << But, even with over 30 yrs. of site grading experience…graded over 500 projects during my LA career, I’m not so sure I could pass the “computerized” version of the LARE Grading exam. >>
    Robert,
I bet with a little practice and some minimal guidance you could blow away the grading problems on the current exam.
