Melanie,
I just got off the phone with David Gregory of Colorado ASLA and we discussed this very point. We will be taking registrations for the E class through Wednesday of this week. Please contact David directly regarding late registration.

There will not be one this spring. All of my other opportunities came through. The closest reviews I will be doing are Sections C and E in Denver, and Section C in Philly.
Maybe I can work something out in the fall.

I have spent a little more time looking over the material these guys put out. There sections E and C material are pretty bad. I also looked at their section B material (which is mainly Q&A) and the questions/answers seem rather suspect. I’m not going to say they are wrong, but the questions themselves are rather oddly “framed”. They often do not…[Read more]

I’m not sure about the multiple choice materials, but the section E material is pretty squirrely.

With regard to losing credits for what you have already passed, I completely sympathize. There would not be a problem if CLARB stayed with a 5 section exam. Why go to 4 sections? And why split D? Admittedly, D currently requires a huge knowledge base. It is really unwieldly, so perhaps I’ve answered my own question, but I’d make D into 2…[Read more]

Tad, I don’t know why Russ would write it as 1:4. That’s not the “conventional” way of doing it.

Ray Freeman replied to the topic Upcoming Section C; the LARE in general in the forum PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 13 years, 9 months ago
There are non-photo blue pencils (they clearly say that on them). I believe col-erase produces them. There are also non-print purple pencils. These are designed to not print using a diazo process (now thankfully obsolescent). They aren’t the same. Non-photo blue is made to not reproduce with a xerographic process (copy machine), although if you…[Read more]

For those gearing up for the LARE performance sections (C&E) in June, you might want to consider an intensive prep class. I’ll be happy to answer questions here or contact me directly at the e-mail below.

Curly,
The LATC has it’s own standards on eligibility to take the exam. You can get info off their web site.
The webinars are recorded. I think if you register as a pro member thru Land 8 you can view the webinar content at your leisure. Check with Andrew Spiering (the founder of the site) on procedures. -

Site Analysis by James LaGro is an excellent book for B. Also, review the ASLA Code of Environmental Ethics.

I’m setting this discussion group up as an information exchange resource for people sitting for the exam. Perhaps it will be helpful in de-mystifying these sections for the users.
You can perhaps also use it to set up a long distance study group, find people local to you with whom to study, and ask questions of people knowledgeable about the…[Read more] -

Does this firm have a name? Sounds like real jerks are in charge.
Toxic workplaces exist. Toxic bosses also exist. Neither is a good thing.
The question one should ask is, if I’m miserable, treated poorly, and underpaid, can I find some place better to go? And start spending time and energy doing just that! I’ve has at least 3 situations in my…[Read more] -

Taking all 3 multiple choice tests at the same time is doable, but a lot depends on the individual.
Are you over-worked? (Sadly those employed generally are, due to the “attrition” the profession has experienced)
Do you have kids, significant others, sick parents, do a lot of onerous volunteer work?
How focused are you at test preparation?
If…[Read more] -

I do remember you Chad. I was rather taken aback by your statement that my review material did not match up with the questions on the test. Of course the questions won’t be exactly the same. Was that your expectation?
I went back and reviewed my records. There were 15 people in your ABD class in 2005. Everyone from your class who took the exam…[Read more] -

The obvious point to take away from this most recent thread is that CLARB expects you to follow their instructions and standards. Generally knowing how to grade or direct drainage does not prove in an objective way that you can execute grading and drainage plans with sufficient skill for them to be fully functional. The 2% minimum standard for…[Read more]
