Irrigation FX Renewal

Does anyone else think, that with Irrigation FX, that losing functionality of the product yearly if we do not renew each year at the $450 cost is a bit odd. With other products such as AutoCAD or EaglePoint you lose, the technical support and future upgrades, not program functionality. I guess I was caught a bit off guard by the loss in functionality of the databases if renewal is not pursued continuously/annually.
