Volunteer Landscape Contracting Services are needed in developing plans to construct a courtyard garden/outdoor classroom at ACE Tech High School in Chicago.

In July 2009, Matt Snoap, Andrew Weiss and Carol Moy from the ACE Mentor Program, along with the Illinois Chapter of the ASLA, organized a gathering of students and professionals for a one-day charrette to design a courtyard/outdoor classroom for ACE Technical High School, located at 5410 S. State Street in Chicago. Students currently involved in the ACE Mentoring Program and students from ACE Tech worked with ILASLA volunteers and professionals from the Mentoring Program to brainstorm design options for the courtyard area.

The ILASLA is sponsoring this Legacy Project to make a positive impact on Chicago in honor of the 2009 Annual Meeting, and to promote the profession of landscape architecture to high school age students who are currently participating in architecture, construction and engineering learning programs.

Volunteer services are still needed for:

Project Contractor: A contracting firm is needed to provide installation of plant material, pavers, and other site amenities. The firm may coordinate the work of volunteers, also. Construction will take place this October/November.

Attached is the final design to be installed. Please contact me (Amy Verel) if you’re in the Chicago area and are interested in volunteering contracting services for this great project and worthy cause. Thanks!

Plant material, hardscape material and site furnishings were donated by many ASLA Expo vendors for this project. The materials are in storage and ready to go in.
