Lotus Land is an incredible place! It isn’t walking distance from the Stearns Wharf area, but if you can get there it is so worth it!

I think we have worked hard to have the laws and codes enforced and it has made a difference on both the private and public sides.

    Hi Eric,

I am a one person, work from home firm. I have been using contractors for the last few years and it has worked extremely well. One of my collaborators is even out of state. They also work from home and may have other regular jobs. The key for me has been that I have worked with them in the past and know their talent, skills and work ethic. I know what I am going to get. I have found that we all keep untraditional hours and work in the middle of the night, weekends, etc. In the end, as long as the work gets done well and on time, it doesn’t really matter when or where it is done. I am the point of contact for the client and they have never had to question my setup.

I teach Professional Practice for Landscape Architects at UNLV and use the Sharky book as the main text book. I have found that although it is from the 90’s, the ‘nuts and bolts’ of the book transend time and remain relevant in today’s world. I think it is a good resource, but I would not rely solely on either book. If you are thinking of starting your own firm, you might think about contacting colleagues in LA, architecture, engineering, etc. and ask about their experiences. You’d be surprised how much they might share.
    Good luck!
